Girl Talk With Siren Allen

Today I will not share the Christmas wishes of my characters. I will share with you a few of my own wishes.

1 – I hope everyone has an awesome Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
2- I have to work Christmas day…so I hope that everyone is healthy and happy on Christmas and have no reason to venture out and come to the hospital on Christmas Day. That way my Phlebotomist and I will be able to have a relaxing work day. (Joke)
3 – I hope all of you go one-click my three Christmas stories.

Lily’s Naughty Christmas:

4 – I hope that all of my family and friends are happy with the presents that I have for them. (They are all getting the same thing, therefore no one can be jealous of the others gift. Lol)
5 – I hope that my nieces and nephews enjoy and appreciate all of the gifts that Santa has left under the tree for them.
6 – I hope that everyone is safe this holiday season. No drinking and driving or texting and driving.
7 – I hope that I don’t gain any weight after Christmas dinner.
8 – I wish many words to all of my writer friends.
9 – I wish for a peaceful day for all of my friends that have to work on Christmas. Special thank you and Merry Christmas to those in the Armed Forces.
10 – Last, but definitely not least. I would like to wish my husband a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. (We’ve made it through 6 months of marriage….Yay us!!!!!!!) Lol.

Oh and thank you honey for all of ‘The Walking Dead’ gifts you gave me for Christmas. I LOVE THEM.

Writing Tips

Writing tip ~ Double negatives are a no no.

Two Negatives in English destroy one another, or are equivalent to an Affirmative.

Never use not in the same sentence as the following:

no one

Here are some examples of sentences that rarely cause confusion in nonstandard dialects, but which are incorrect in standard English:

Note: the asterisk indicates that the sentence is nonstandard.

*She was so weak she couldn’t hardly sit up.
*Scarcely nobody came to my party.
*I can’t stay only a few minutes.
*I didn’t know neither her telephone number nor her address.
*I never saw no one I thought prettier.
*I don’t know nothing about building a compost pile.
*We don’t need no education
*I don’t want none of those escargots.

Here are the same thoughts expressed in standard English:

She was so weak she could hardly sit up.
Scarcely anybody came to my party.
I can stay only a few minutes.
I knew neither her telephone number nor her address.
I never saw anyone I thought prettier.
I don’t know anything about building a compost pile.
We don’t need an education
I don’t want any of those escargots.

Note: Not all double negatives in English earn an F from grammarians. The “not un-” construction popular in the 17th century is still acceptable in standard English. For example, here’s a comment from a travel article: “the flavor was unusual, but not unappealing.” Both not and unappealing are negatives. The idea is that the flavor is too strange to actually be “appealing,” but is nevertheless palatable. To state the thought otherwise would alter the writer’s intended meaning.

Girl Talk with the Characters from Christmas Confusion

Welcome to Girl Talk Saturday! This month’s topic is ‘Christmas Wish list’. Today I will share with you the Christmas wish list of my Characters from Christmas Confusion.

Bailey: I don’t want much for Christmas mainly because the things that I would love to have are impossible to receive. I would love to see my mothers beautiful face on Christmas morning but a drunk drive took that possibility away from me. I would love to spend Christmas with my brother, but his evil wife has made that impossible. I don’t really have any high hopes for this Christmas. I wish I could see my bestie for Christmas but I’m kinda afraid to ask her to come visit. What if she says no? I plan to spend it alone. Hopefully I can sneak a peek at my sexy next door neighbor, Max, on Christmas morning. Isn’t it a shame that the highlight of my Christmas is going to be watching my neighbor come and go from his apartment. #WorstChristmasEver.

What do I want for Christmas? I want my life back. My best friend has moved away. Damn you Bailey Cooper. My mom is dating a new guy whom I hate from the bottom of my heart. I guess I will spend this Christmas relaxing on my bed and watching ‘Family Guy.’ #SoSad. Or….. Maybe since Bailey isn’t coming home from Christmas, I should go to her for Christmas. But…I don’t want to impose on her. Who am I kidding…I would love to impose on her. This may not be such a bad Christmas after all. Okay, so I have a new Christmas wish, I want to spend Christmas with my bestie, Bailey.

Greg: There are so many things I want for Christmas.
1 – A new car.
2 – A new guy.
3 – New clothes.
4 – New Shoes.
5 – A woman…for my brother. Not for me, that would be gross. My brother needs a woman. I fear that sexual frustration is driving him mad. But he doesn’t need just any woman. He needs the woman next door, little miss Bailey. She’s so cute and I know she’s the perfect gal for him. How do I know? Because I am the Christmas Cupid.

For Christmas I would like a little peace and quiet. My brother is driving me crazy with all of his unwanted advice. On top of that I have this woman next door who is giving me mixed signals. I catch her staring at me like she wants me but when I speak to her, she ignores me. Then she runs over to my apartment early one morning and bangs on my door because there’s a mice in her apartment. Couldn’t she have put some clothes on first. I mean, I’m only human. So for Christmas I want peace and quiet and I also want a guide to understanding women.

Christmas Confusion Excerpt:
Max scooted back on the couch, he reached toward Bailey, eyes straying to her legs. Even though she wore jeans, he still pictured her legs bare, like they were when she jumped on his counter.
Her eyes widened as his hand came closer and closer. Max leaned forward, stretching his arm even closer to her body, he ached to touch her. His fingertips itched for a chance to slide down her body. As he moved closer, he heard her inhale deeply and he couldn’t escape the erotic images that flowed through his mind. Oh, the sounds I could cause her to make, if she would give me the chance.
Max continued edging forward, until his fingers wrapped around what he was reaching for. He picked the remote control up and moved back to his side of the couch. His hand shook slightly. Bailey exhaled. The sound sent chills over his body. Max pointed the remote at the television and pressed play.
He cleared his throat. “Do you want to start from the beginning or do you want me to find the last scene you watched?”
Max waited on her to answer but all he heard was the sound of her breathing. He kept his eyes straight forward, fearing the sight of her chest rising and falling would be his downfall. She took so long to answer that he forgot what his question was.
“Whatever you want,” she whispered, and his gut clenched. Max pressed pause.
What was his question? For the life of him, he couldn’t remember what he’d asked her. But her answer ‘whatever you want’ was the answer he craved. A thousand questions raced through his head, ‘Bailey, what do you want me to do to you with my tongue?’ Her answer of ‘whatever you want’ would be perfect for that question. ‘Bailey, what do you want me to do to you with my hands?’ Whatever you want would be the perfect answer to that question. But none of those were the question she was answering. What had he asked her?
“Or we could just watch television,” she said. “We don’t have to watch the movie, I know it’s a chick flick and you may not like it.”
Oh yeah, the movie. “No, no, we can watch the movie.” Get it together, Max.
“Okay,” Bailey smiled and snuggled further into the comforter. His comforter, the one he would sleep under later on tonight. The comforter that would have her sweet scent on it until he decided to wash it, if he decided to wash it. Get it together, now, Max.
Max cleared his throat again. He felt like his t-shirt was getting tighter, choking him. Max found it hard to swallow. “We can just watch it from the beginning. How long is this movie anyway?” he asked her.
“It’s a short movie, about an hour long.”
He would have an hour in her company, an hour with her sitting within arms-reach of him, an hour of sweet torture and he would enjoy every minute of it.
“Can I have a little cover?” he asked her.
“Sure, here.” Bailey leaned forward pushing some of the comforter his way.
“Thanks,” Max told her, before draping the cover over his legs and pressing play. The first scene of the movie came on. Bailey’s eyes were glued to the television screen. Making good use of his peripheral vision, Max watched her from the corner of his eyes.
He loved watching her smile at the funny scenes and tear up at the sadder ones. Emotion after emotion flitted across her face as she watched the movie. He wondered what kind of emotions he would draw from her if she was underneath him. Would she be as passionate in the bedroom as she was outside of it? Max had a feeling she would be.
‘Whatever you want,’ she’d whispered. Max groaned again.
