I love fairy tales. I love them even more when they’re a little twisted. So when I received an invite to be part of the F’d Up Fairy Tales collection and retell one of my favorite stories, I jumped on it. Today, I’m spotlighting one of the books from that collection, Sleep Sweetly. The author will share some info about the book with us and she even brought the characters along so they can chat with us. Enjoy!
Who is your favorite fairy tale villain and why?
I love to hate Cinderella’s evil stepmother. She seemed almost untouchable, until the end. I think that’s why I loathe her so much. She had everyone (even her CAT!) under her rule and control. That’s POWER, and that’s why she’s my favorite villain.
What fairy tale is your new release a F’d Up version of and why did you choose that fairy tale to rewrite?
My Fairy Tale is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I choose Sleeping Beauty to be ‘F’d Up’ because it was always one of my favorite classics as a child.
What makes your fairy tale different from the original?
Oh, goodness. Let’s see… What *isn’t* different? LOL. The setting. The gender swapping. Everything makes it different from the original. I hope readers enjoy it! I really do!
What does love mean to you?
JEROME: Protection.
RILEY: Sacrifice.
What do you love most about your partner?
JEROME: She’s so… caring. I hope that comes through in our story. She cares about me, and that means the world to me.
RILEY: He’s bold and out there… I love that about him.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
JEROME: I guess you could say I do. Did. Whatever.
RILEY: Lust. Yeah. Love? Nope. But don’t tell Rome that, though.

Riley Sinclair wakes up in the same place every night- not in a bed, refreshed. No. She awakes in the woods -alone- as the sun peeks through an opening in them. To make matters worse, her ex-boyfriend who was murdered (or was he?) keeps haunting her dreams, trying to commune with her.
Putting her best foot forward, taking the steps to move on, Riley is struggling. For every time she closes her eyes, Jerome is there.
When your curse is to be without the one you love, you do everything in your power to reverse it, right?
In dreams, he waits for her, hoping that she’ll see the truth and sleep sweetly.
She sighed. It had been a year since the moment she found herself waking up in this part of the woods. A deep cove of nothing but trees and moss, hidden away from the rest of the wild, crazy forest. It offered her comfort, or at least that was how she felt the first few times.
Now, she needed answers.
She needed for him to set her free. Instantly.
Because the sleepless nights, or the times when she would wake up in cold sweats, weren’t cutting it anymore.
People around her thought she was crazy. She kept her head down, conversations short (apart from conversing with Jamie). She was open to him, now that Jerome had died. More open, really.
And as Riley closed her eyes, listening to the still, quiet of the forest, she felt him. Felt Jerome standing behind her.
“I’m right here, Rome. What do you want, babe? What do you want from me?” Her voice was barely above a whisper, as she opened her eyes a moment later.
Turning around, her eyes met pitch black. More darkness everywhere she looked. For miles, there was nothing but the darkness of night, yielding more time without Jerome speaking to her.
But she felt him.
She.
Felt.
Him.
“Jerome?” she called out to him again, her voice rising in pitch. Her entire body bent over, pressed toward the ground until she was laying with her right cheek to the Earth; her knees touching her chest. She whispered his name over and over… Until she swore she could hear his heart beating. Until she succumbed to the exhaustion of crying, accompanied by the heaviness behind her eyelids.
She wasn’t afraid to close her eyes and dream.
