paranormaromanceauthors

It’s October, which means it’s time for all of the supernatural creatures to come out and play! All month long I’ll be featuring paranormal romance writers on my blog. Today I have author Rosanna Leo and her latest release, Predator’s Fire.

Predator's Fire cover

Blurb:

When Nina Suzuki discovers the body of her best friend Janine, her world turns upside down. Things go from bad to worse when Janine’s corpse seems to transform into that of a large, brown wolf. For the first time, Nina is faced to confront all the clues indicating her BFF was not what she seemed. A letter from the dead woman opens Nina’s eyes to a strange, new world. The same letter warns of a sinister group called the Alpha Brethren, and urges her to find Killian Moon of the Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort on Gemini Island.

Killian Moon is a jaguar shifter and teen mentor at the Ursa Lodge in Northern Ontario. He may be a comfort and inspiration to confused teen shifters, but he also has a fiery past. His past comes back to haunt him when human Nina arrives at the resort, demanding to speak with him. Demanding answers. Can he trust her with knowledge that will not only change her life, but possibly endanger those around him?

As Killian begrudgingly tutors Nina on all things shifter, their mutual curiosity flares into passionate need. Once they touch, once they succumb to desire, there is no going back. Killian realizes Nina is his mate and they both begin to comprehend the terror threatening those on their shifter-friendly island. He is forced to confront the tragedy in his family and determines to protect Nina at all costs.

But can they protect everyone they love from a cult of dangerous shifters, intent on horror and destruction?

Excerpt:

“How much longer do I have to wait? I want to see Killian Moon. Now.”
The feminine voice, strangely soft despite its insistence, echoed deep in his being, awakening his jaguar. The great cat roared to life, turned toward the office and inhaled deeply. Its eyes flashed in interest.
In…recognition?

Killian breathed in at the same time, catching the scent of cherry blossoms through the door. The sweet perfume, mixed with human outrage, proved a heady distraction, making him forget why he was there. Shaking his head, he tried to dismiss the odd sensation as Ryland opened the door.

The door swung open and the first person he glimpsed was one of the clerks from reception, trying his hardest to placate the unexpected guest. “I’m sure Mr. Snow and Mr. Moon will be right back.”
And then his gaze landed on the petite human. Tapered Asian eyes, so dark and mysterious, but rimmed with circles of exhaustion. Smooth, cinnamon skin hinted at a mixed background. Wearing no makeup, she appeared younger than she must be, but her presence and keen eyes pegged her at around thirty years old. She had a riot of curly, black hair and feminine curves that ought to come with a warning. He could see it now. Beware: this woman’s body will cause insanity in men. Even as she gesticulated at the clerk, her boobs jiggled in such a way his throat went dry.

He pictured her in a corset, her breasts spilling over delicate lace edging, and almost forgot his name.

This Nina Suzuki was damn hot and his jaguar seemed to agree. The animal licked its lips, its golden gaze assessing and appreciating every detail, from her rounded hips to her come-hither rack.
Yes, the creature uttered on a frenzied breath.

Excerpt:

“Gotcha!”
The wooden stick thwacks into my calf, knocking my leg out from under me with a muted ache that makes me stumble, my free arm whipping round and round like a propeller. But it doesn’t help. My foot slides off the rope anyway. Will grabs my shoulder, hauling me back onto the slatted bridge, barely stopping me falling from the trapeze training area high in the tree canopy of The Ring.
We’ve been training like crazy since saving Dad from the Collective. I won’t be an easy target again. I’m resistance now, and I’ll fight.
Laughter booms from below, where Jax and Lilly sit at opposite sides of the cleared forest floor. Jax leans back on his elbows, peering up into the canopy, looking at me with the half-grin that makes my insides melt. I don’t let him distract me for long though. Instead, I swivel around and bring my padded stick up, crunching it into Will’s side. He lets out a grunt but barely sways on the rope. He’s too strong for me to budge. Jax says something I don’t quite catch and stifled giggling floats up like a tolling bell. Clearly Lilly’s trying not to laugh, but Jax’s humor is too much for even her steely grudge.
Right, this is it.
I’m not the helpless girl they think I am. I can best them all up here, I just need to concentrate on outwitting them. A quick glance around gathers my thoughts; ropes over there, down there, up there too. Yep, that’s the way. I spring off my feet, grab the support above me, pull myself up, and scurry along it while Will’s still looking around to see where I’ve gone. There’s no way I can win if he gets the upper hand. Play like a squirrel, quick and smart. My hand moves toward my neck, but I pull away before I touch the pendant that’s always there. I’ll play fair. Hanging upside down with my legs wrapped around the rope, the stick tucked between them and up over my shoulder, I pull myself along into the thick canopy. Lilly’s giggling continues joined by her dog, Ace, who yelps at the air.
I shuffle back, deeper into the tree, letting the branches and leaves close around me.
Ha, get me now, Will Avery.
There’s a wall of greenery in front of me, but I can peer through the branches to see the ground below where Jax still lazes back on his elbows. He looks straight at my hiding spot and closes one eye in a slow wink, flooding my chest with delicious warmth. Suppressing a smile, I hold my finger to my lips.
The leaves on the far side of me rustle. Damn, Will’s already passed. Pay attention, Mae. I swing down out of my hiding place and silently creep along in Will’s wake.
Using his training stick to poke at the branches in front of him, he’s oblivious to me behind him. “This isn’t a game of hide and seek, Mae.”
I creep so close if he spun around we’d both lose our balance and topple over the side of the ropes. Holding my breath, I bring the stick around to my side, just below shoulder height. It whooshes through the air and thuds against his right leg. The entire structure sways.
“Ahhh!” Fingers springing free of the rope, he grabs his leg, then, like he remembers, makes a grab for the handhold but it’s too late. He’s already falling off the side, and growling, “Cheat.”
“Well, look at that…” The safety attached to his makeshift harness snaps taut, twanging the walkway under my feet. I have to clutch the rope handrail with both hands to stop my laughter unbalancing me too. “I win and I didn’t cheat.”
“Don’t get too cocky.” He climbs back up the rope.
Still holding the handrail one-handed, I reach out and haul him up beside me where he sits with his legs hanging over the side. After a huge sigh, he says, “I’m beat, let’s take a break.”
“Sure.”
I walk along the suspended path, my bouncy steps matching my light mood as I jump down to the next level and swing to the ground, my feet thudding on a large fallen log. I’m way more confident in the crisscrossed rope training area than I was last month. The height no longer makes my stomach lurch or my eyes zoom in on ground. Thank small mercies.
“Nicely played,” Lilly says from her cross-legged position on the cleared forest floor. She tosses a water bottle back and forth between her hands, her eyes glued to it. Probably to avoid accidently making eye contact with Jax. Since finding out his true heritage, that he’s not only of Collective blood but Manvyke’s son, their whole friendship has changed. It’s like she doesn’t trust him anymore, like he’s not the same person he always was.
“Thanks, I feel like I’m improving,” I say, throwing my practice stick onto the ground and grabbing the drink from her outstretched hand. A swipe of the back of my arm across my forehead catches the dripping perspiration. This sure is thirsty work. I pop the top of the bottle, gulping water.
Will lands with an ungracious thud behind me. “You only won because my knee’s not a hundred percent.” He snaps the elastic brace wrapped around the knee I purposefully didn’t hit.
“Whatever makes you feel better, Will. That’s why we’re training up there in the trees, gives us even footing.” I smirk at the half-lie, tossing him the bottle.
“Some more even than others,” Jax says.
“I’ll take you on,” Will challenges.
Jax laughs.
We all know who’d win. Not the guy tipping his head back and squirting water into his mouth. As Will lowers it he grabs the bottle with his other hand and squeezes. Water spurts out its nozzle and hits me smack bang in the face.
“Will!”

One bite was all it took.

It’s that time of year again. Alyssa Blakely is busy writing in her fantasy diary, filling it with all her forbidden, sexual fantasies. The star: her very sexy boss, Devin Jordan. Too bad for her, he’s never given her a second glance.

Or so she thought…

After a steamy kiss under the mistletoe and a night of wild sex, Alyssa has the bite to prove just how wrong she was.

Devin Jordan has found his mate. The only problem: she’s human. He’s not. Can he prove to her that his inner beast can be both naughty and nice? Or will her fear of the unknown and a threat neither of them saw coming keep him from claiming her?

~Christmas Fantasy Excerpt~
#TeamDevin

Devin took a deep, calming breath. Alyssa was off limits. Even if she were single and interested in him, he still couldn’t have her. It was too risky. She made him feel things he wasn’t used to. He didn’t know if he could handle touching her without hurting her.

Hurting Alyssa was something he would never do. He would just have to endure her presence. He would take pleasure in the shy smiles she cast his way every now and again. He would enjoy the laughs they shared while working late some evenings. He would maintain the professional relationship they had, even though he yearned for a taste of her.

Devin turned and placed his back against the window. He stared at the door that separated him from the woman he desired. A piece of metal and space was all that separated his body from hers. It would only take a couple of strides for him to reach the door.

One pull on the door knob and he could send it flying across the room. Then he would be face to face with the one woman in this world that made him wish he wasn’t a beast with a conscience. If he had no conscience, he would take her, now, against his desk, against her desk, against the wall, on every damn hard surface in this building.

He would make sure she enjoyed it. He would make sure he pleased her so thoroughly that she wouldn’t even think of leaving him, even when she found out that he was not the man he pretended to be. Devin sighed, but that would never happen. Because though he was a beast, he did indeed have a conscience

That conscience kept her safe from him… for now.

Christmas Fantasy Excerpt:

Caught up in the pleasure she was feeling, she didn’t hear the bathroom door open. Eyes closed, she pushed her finger deeper into her and moaned Devin’s name.
She removed her hand from her clit and brought it to her breast while pushing her fingers deeper into her body.
When the shower curtain was pulled open she stared into Devin’s eyes, her mouth wide open. She was caught.
Damn, damn, damn.
“Devin, I…” Embarrassed she didn’t know what to say.
When had he awakened?
Why hadn’t she heard him?
“Give me your hand, Alyssa.”
His voice was dark, deep, demanding.
“Why?” She asked warily as she lifted her hand from her breast.
“Not that hand,” he told her.
“But,” She could barely get the words out. “This hand is wet,” she said, speaking of the hand deep inside of her.
“I know.” His dark eyes drifted lower to where her hand was. “Give it to me.”
“Devin, I…”
“Either give me your hand or turn around and bend over.”
Oh my!
Alyssa slipped her fingers out of her body and slowly brought her hand closer to him.
Devin leaned forward.
He couldn’t really be about to do what she thought he was.
He was, he did.
Devin sucked her finger into his mouth.
Alyssa groaned and nearly came undone.
“Devin,” she whispered.
He closed his eyes and continued sucking her wetness from her fingers.
“Devin, I…”
What the hell was she trying to say?
“Alyssa, I need you.”
He spoke around her finger, not releasing it, his tongue teasing her flesh.
She needed him also. She ached so badly for his touch, but she was afraid still. Afraid of what he was, afraid of what he could do to her without even trying.
“I can be gentle, Alyssa.”
He grabbed her wrist and slipped her finger from his mouth.
“Let me show you.” He pressed a light kiss to her fingertip.
“Devin, it’s too soon and…”
“I promise I won’t hurt you, sweetie. Let me show you.”
“I want to, believe me, but I’m…” Scared, was she really?
No, she was just nervous.
There was a difference.
She knew Devin wouldn’t hurt her, but his beast was different, would he be able to keep what lived inside of him on a leash?
“I just wish there was a way I could watch you change without you touching me.”
He frowned.
Damn it.
Her words hurt him, it showed on his face. The darkness began to fade out of his eyes.
“No.” Alyssa leaned closer to him. She hadn’t meant to hurt his feelings. “I just want to see you fully changed before we proceed,” she told him.
“I can’t change unless provoked, by anger, hunger or sex.”
The mentioning of sex brought the blackness she craved back into his eyes. But there was no way she was just going to hop back into bed with him without seeing him fully changed.
She needed to see exactly what she was dealing with. Then, and only then, would she be able to give herself fully to him.
She had an idea. She still had the handcuffs she’d planned to use on Thomas in her car. She could use them on Devin, and as he changed, she could watch from a safe distance. Alyssa smiled, she was brilliant.
“I have an idea,” she began.
“Get the handcuffs,” he said, not letting her finish.
“How did you know I was thinking of cuffs, Devin?”
Alyssa swatted his shoulder.
“Alyssa, get the cuffs.”
“What happened to not reading my mind unless it’s absolutely necessary?”
“Where are your keys? I’ll get the handcuffs.”

Book 2: Dark Fantasies (Ashley’s story) is coming December 31st.

~A peek into book two.~

Dear Diary,

I haven’t written to you in a long while. I’ve been so busy with, well, life. But now I have something juicy to share and I’m not allowed to tell anyone else. Of course Alyssa knows, but she’s going through a few changes right now so my new protector won’t let me see her. My protector is who I’m writing to you about today.

You see, I’ve been kidnapped. No, don’t panic, it’s not anything to get upset about. At first I thought it was. When he first took me I was pissed. But I’m slowly learning that this beast who calls himself my mate is simply a big softy, who wouldn’t harm me no matter how many times I tell him to fuck off, and I do tell him that a lot.

Anyway, we’re kind of hiding from these angel assassins right now so I figure, why not take advantage of this situation and use it to do some research for my erotic romance column. I already have the column title picked out: How To Seduce A Vampire. Of course, my protector isn’t talking to me right now, the big baby is mad at me for breaking his brand new television. In my defense, I did tell him I was going to tear shit up if he didn’t release me.

He actually tied me up, can you believe that? Oh, well, I guess in order to get what I want I’ll just have to walk around the house naked. I’m sure he’ll pounce. He’s a predator and I’m going to pretend to be the prey. Once we get rid of all these pesky assassins, I am going back to my regular life. Mr. Big Bad Vampicus – that’s what I call a mix between a vampire and an incubus by the way. Anyway, Mr. Big Bad Vampicus is just going to have to find himself another mate. An independent girl like me and a domineering beast like him would never work out.
Xoxo Ashley

EXCERPT

Payback time. Standing in his mother’s kitchen, Sean Collins smiled as he hung up the phone.
He hovered at the phone for a moment, then charged along the carpeted hallway to his bedroom. In a flash, he changed from his T-shirt and jeans into his black pin stripe king-of-the-business-world suit complete with black tie and shiny black shoes.
Finished dressing, Sean jittered at the door and listened to his son talking nonstop to his mother upstairs. His skin tingled and he closed his eyes. At least moving to his parents’ country estate where he had grown up on Cape Cod had been good for everyone.
Breakfast could wait. He grabbed the keys on the counter downstairs, and he called upstairs, “I’m leaving. I won’t be gone long.”
Last year, the school principal had fired him with bogus charges. Sean had sworn on every holy book that he’d been fired because his doctors had discovered cancer in a routine physical exam.
The sickness sucked. But he’d survived. And now he used his vast wealth to get what he wanted. No teacher should be treated so callously. He had taken the job at the time to prove to himself he had more choices than being the chief financial officer of his father’s corporation.
He set his jaw and walked outside to his car, where the smell of freshly cut grass hit his senses.
The moment he stepped outside and headed toward the garage, Sean stared at the vast forested area on the property for a moment and pressed his lips together. Trees made sense. Women never had. His luck with women had been bad from the start. His first girlfriend, Gigi Dumont, had left him for parts unknown, and then later his wife, now his ex, Jennifer, had also left. She’d played with a whole set of loose scruples. But Jennifer hadn’t hurt him, not like Gigi had. Sean rolled his shoulders. Why did everything in his life always seem to go back to Gigi leaving?
He fished out his keys from his pocket. And now Gigi had moved back into the house next door.
Sean opened the garage door. A quick click of a button and the gate lifted.
Last night he hadn’t slept. Today his shoulders were straight. This moment had nothing to do with women and everything to do with justice. His fingers traced the shiny finish of his brother Gerard’s Aston Martin. Without blinking, he opted to borrow the car. He’d be early and outshine everyone else. Gerard had offered to loan it to him specifically for today. Sean licked his lips and turned the key, igniting the engine, and took off.
A daydream flashed in his eyes. Principal Murray’s jaw dropped to the ground in shock the second Sean stepped inside the office with the papers.
Sean clutched the wheel. He intended to twist the knife even further. People like Mr. Murray gave businessmen around the world the reputation of cold, heartless automatons, especially when he claimed the firing had been over “job performance.” Every one of Sean’s students had passed the state assessments.
Now, Sean ran the finances for his parents, his father’s company, and his brothers. The support of his family to get him through cancer treatments had been phenomenal, but what if he hadn’t had that support? What if he’d had no money to pay for treatments? He’d be dead because the principal had fired him due to the insurance increases. Well, now Sean had a better solution.
He sped down the country road for the half-hour trip. During his horrible marriage to Jennifer, he’d worked as a teacher, and his students had achieved both academic and social successes. Jennifer had been the nightmare that drove Sean away from Collins Industries, Collins Enterprises, Collins Investments, and Collins Mutual, to list a few of his father’s multiple companies. Post divorce and cancer, Sean had made the decision to offer employees packages in cases of sickness. Anyone who worked for him would now receive a payoff equal to the job performance done over the years as part of a settlement. Money paid hospital bills.
Sean’s stomach clenched as he gazed at the sign for the Barnstable Charter High School parking lot. Sean parked Gerard’s fancy lawyer wheels that screamed “out to impress” right next to the about-to-be-sacked principal’s BMW sedan. The Aston Martin made the perfect goodbye gesture. Murray had been outclassed.
Sean leaned forward in his seat, refusing to feel guilty. He waited for the school bell to ring and watched students bounding outside.
Unlike most people, his family had money, and normally he wouldn’t like flaunting wealth. His Jeep Wrangler suited him just fine, but today he needed to look like the elite businessman he was. He stepped out a minute later, and in a fast walk, he strode down the halls. Sean winked the second he saw the school guard’s shocked face.
“You had cancer?” asked the older African American lady who coached the wrestling team.
“Yes, I did. I’m better now,” Sean said, smiling.
He inclined his head and passed the security desk then Sean turned right toward the principal’s office.
In his briefcase he carried the school board’s ruling and the proof of sale of the school to Collins Enterprises. Barnstable was a private school that followed school board law. The sale to his company had been finalized, but Sean had insisted on telling Murray in person. The minutes of the meeting would be posted at one that day. Victory waited for him, and justice tasted better than homemade chocolate chip cookies.
In the office, the overqualified secretary, Mattie, dropped her pencil on the floor. Sean made eye contact with her and the older woman smiled back. Then he picked up the pencil in stride, and handed it back to her. She opened her mouth to speak, and he shook his head, placing his finger over his lips to silently request her silence.
She smiled her response and swiveled her chair back to her computer.
He had seen Mattie in action and understood the older woman had known how to treat people more than anyone else in the office.
Outside the principal’s door, Sean straightened his tie into perfect alignment. His heart rate sped up and his entire body became alert then he heard her voice.
Gigi, or should he say, Giovanna Dumont. Her quiet, sweet voice unmanned him, making his palms sweat. Why would she be here? And how could she still steal his breath away?

EXCERPT

Pounding music flowed over Isadora Starling as she walked into her bar, Shenanigans. Only one thing was on her mind, finding someone who would take her home and rock her world. She was smoking hot and she knew it.
Taking note of every man whose head turned in her direction, she emphasized the already-seductive sway of her hips as she sashayed to the bar with purpose. As usual, her eyes kept drifting back to the only man in the place who made her mouth water. Unfortunately, her best friend was not on the menu.
She slid into a booth and turned toward her business partner, Lana, one of the few women she truly trusted.
Lana’s molten silver eyes landed on her. A smirk twisted her lips. “Back so soon?”
Isa lifted a shoulder in a shrug before stating, “I’m on a mission.”
Perusing the sultry make-up and her come-ravish-me outfit, Lana snorted. “I can see that. What are you drinking?”
“Double Grey Goose, straight up.”
“One of those nights?” There was a grimace on her face.
Isa responded with a one fingered salute before turning back to the crowd with the intention of finding a man.
Lana cut in with, “I still think you should drag him home and get each other out of your systems.”
By him, she meant Isa’s best friend, Toryn Flame. More than gorgeous, he was fucking beautiful, masculine perfection. His dazzling blue topaz eyes were lined in guyliner, not that his eyes needed any help attracting attention with his ten-mile long lashes. Silky black hair was teased up in a sexy tousle calling to her fingers. The man was a sex god, in snug leather pants and half-buttoned black silk shirt open far enough to display his sculpted chest and the beginning of washboard abs.
Forbidden, though she had a never-ending supply of fantasies starring Toryn. The current was her craving to lick every ridge of muscle on her way down to the golden zipper straining over an impressive bulge she wished she could ignore.
They were firmly stuck in the friend zone. He didn’t see her that way, and despite the fact he was sensuality walking, she wasn’t supposed to want him.
Frustrated, she turned back to Lana with a cold stare. “Have you forgotten he prefers men? Last time I checked,” she looked down and shook her tits for emphasis, “I have all the wrong parts. Besides, he’s my friend, my best friend and he,” she glanced back to watch Toryn tongue-fuck his boytoy, “is all over his man, Leon.”
One scarlet brow rose in challenge. “Bullshit, I’ve seen him take women home.”
“Please, when was the last time? Tiffany? And that rare occurrence was over a year ago.”
Lana’s mouth dropped open, “Oh my god, you are fucking blind, Isadora. He’s only with Leon to distract himself from you.” With a glare, Lana slid the vodka to her.
Isa would give anything for that to be the truth. Forcing the desperate sentiment from her mind, she took the shot in a single gulp, causing Lana to grimace.
Driving her point home, Isa nodded back to the two hottest men in the place. “Toryn is with Leon. Has been for nearly two months, which is some kind of record for him.”
Actually, they had been dating exactly seven weeks, which was damn near a miracle. Aside from Leon, he hadn’t been with a single person more than twice since she’d met him nearly ten years ago. Somehow his lack of commitment made her want him all the more. She always loved a challenge, and secretly wished she could be the one to snare him permanently.
Of course, if she told Lana she was counting the days Toryn stayed with Leon, it would prove her point. A point Isa was going to deny until her desire finally died.
With a devilish smirk, Lana shrugged. “He’d dump him for you in a heartbeat.”
A glance back at Toryn easily reminded her how wrong Lana was. Toryn was grinding his hips into Leon who was hungrily kissing down Toryn’s throat. They were too hot and heavy for their public display of sexual chemistry to merely be a distraction.
“Then why is he taking Leon home tonight? And don’t tell me he’s not. Do you see them?” Isadora pointed back at them with a wicked grin. It was a gorgeous sight.
Licking her lips and watching like every other woman, and most of the men, in the nearly anything goes bar, she nodded. “Oh, I do, but you don’t see the way he looks at you. Like he’s making love to you with his eyes. When you aren’t watching Toryn, he always stares at you.”
Lana filled the shot glass.
In all the years they’d been friends, Toryn had never made a move, so Lana was wrong, very depressingly wrong. Isa slammed back the second dose and glared back at Lana. “You’re full of shit. Pour me another.”
“I’m not. I still say you’re fucking blind,” Lana taunted as she refilled the glass. “If he wasn’t so hung up on you, I would make a move on him.”
That hurt.
Wait… what? Hung up on me? Yeah, might need to have her committed.
Isa took another glance at Toryn and Leon, then grinned at Lana. “If you can pry him from Leon, he’s all yours.”
Thankfully, Lana changed the subject. “Where’s Mike?”
Well-intentioned, maybe, but her new topic wasn’t much better. Isa downed the third shot before answering, “Don’t know. Don’t care. Of course it would be a hell of a lot easier to get laid if he were around.” He was her favorite fallback romp in the sack.
“You torture that poor man. If you’d let him, he’d fall in love with you.”
Which was exactly the reason she hadn’t called and was attempting to avoid him… though in desperate times…
Mentally shaking herself, she quipped, “We don’t work as a couple. Sure, explosive in bed, awesome on the dance floor, but that is where our good chemistry ends. We would drive each other batshit crazy—and I’m not talking about the scorch the sheets way—in a matter of days. Not to mention the fact Roxy hates my fucking guts.”
“Only because you’re stringing her brother along. Plus, she has a valid point. I’m still convinced you fell for Toryn years ago. Like two seconds after you met him.”
She was right, but Isa wasn’t going there. “Go to hell.”
“Only when you join me.”
Isa slid the empty glass at Lana and batted her lashes. “Anyone I should consider?”
With an accusatory glare, she answered, “Plenty of them. Except, don’t take the hot blond home.” She glanced down at the end of the bar for about the hundredth time since Isa sat down.
All Isa saw was the healthy fall of shiny blond hair, way too long and perfect to be on any man’s head.
“I don’t go for blonds.” Isa smirked before turning toward the crowd. Of its own accord, her gaze landed on Toryn, who winked at her.
Lana pulled her back to reality with bite in her tone. “Knowing you, you’ll take him home to spite me.”
Isa spun back around, her hands landing on the counter as her eyes narrowed. “I would not. When was the last time?”
Her eyes narrowed to slits. “Last week, when you took Reese home.”
“Oh,” she shrugged sheepishly, “that hardly counts. You didn’t warn me beforehand. If you had simply told me, I would have found someone else.” It was the truth, Isa never meant to hurt anyone, and especially not her friends. There had been plenty of other options. She honestly hadn’t realized Lana was interested.
“Why don’t I believe you?” she muttered. The question stung. Of course, her payback sucked. Lana turned around and hired the guy the very next day, even after Isa begged her not to.
“I’m not selfish, Lana. I wouldn’t do that to you,” she whined.
“Hmph,” Lana didn’t look convinced, but a smirk formed as she looked over Isa’s shoulder.
Isa fought back a smile as she felt Toryn’s approach. He had a presence she could feel and as much as she hated her weakness, it felt good to have him close. Toryn leaned his long hard body against hers.
Lana grinned as if her point was made.
One corner of Isa’s mouth lifted. “I would be more worried about Toryn taking Blondy home.”
“Bitch,” she gasped.
“Grey Goose?” Toryn licked his full lips as his brow cocked. “One of those nights, Isa?”
Her eyes nearly rolled out of her head, “Okay, everyone stop! I had a long day, and I’m horny as hell. It’s not like I’m driving home. No more judging. Just let me find a man for the night.”
The guy sitting next to her turned with a smile that chilled her blood. His deep blue eyes seemed wrong, his skin too pale, almost blue. She’d seen him before, but couldn’t place where.
Isa glared back. “Not you.”
Amusement danced through his eyes as they dropped to his drink with a chuckle.
Toryn grinned at Lana. “Two Loves and one is for my sweet Isadora.” His eyes held a mischievous sparkle.
Isa snorted. “Is that so?”
“Don’t argue,” he purred in a way that made her want to scratch her nails down his back while riding him into the night.
With a groan, she smiled back at Lana and tossed down enough cash to cover her vodka and the Loves, plus a generous tip. “Where’s Leon?”
Avoiding answering, Toryn quickly finished the drink and placed his empty glass with a purposeful thunk on the counter. “Let’s dance.”
She let the question slide and followed his lead after finishing her cocktail.
Maybe she had a bit too much, too fast, because the world tilted. Still, she managed to walk straight.
“Leon won’t be jealous?”
“Nope, he plans to join us soon.” She could feel his eyes caress down her body and back up. “He told me to tell you that you’re on fire tonight.”
“He always says that.”
He pulled her close and his lips grazed over her ear. “Only because it’s true.”
The warmth of his breath and rumble of his voice only heightened the ache between her legs. Such a damned tease. And if he didn’t do it with everyone, she might think he really felt something for her.

“Um, thanks. Again.” I have said thanks a few times but he hasn't replied.

“Stop saying that,” somewhat irritated, he snaps at me.

He is talking.

“And I am sorry,” I continue.

“No!” He turns around, looking at me. “Don’t say sorry. That was not your fault!” In his eyes, I see… repentance?

“And it was yours?”

“Yes.”

“No, it wasn’t!”

He looks through the window again. “I should have been there. I should have never let you walk alone.”

“Alexander,” I touch his shoulder. “Things happen. But you came and you save me. He won’t be bothering me again.”

This has never happened to any of my subs. And,” fraught, he turns to me. “You come along. You fuck up my world. You make me lose my focus, my awareness. You were hurt today. If I hadn’t come back in time, I probably would have killed that man. And what’s more, something that’s new to me, you interfere and I obey? I obey? What is fucking wrong with me? I am not me anymore. I am…you. And that’s your line.” A distressing, poignant expression cloaks his face.

“No! No! Do not say it like that! Do not turn it against me! I forbid you!” He will not push me away.

“You see? We fight and you forbid me?” He reaches out to stroke my cheek but I move away. “Oh, Amelia, what kind of ominous thread have we entangled ourselves with? I can’t stay away from you but, at the same time, you turn me into someone else, someone that’s not me.”

“Alexander,” I know what he is doing. “Don’t push me away, please.” My eyes well up. “I am not frightened of who I am becoming…why are you?”

“It’s you. I can’t think straight with you around.” He sighs. “I found myself in you but you are so vast, I’ve lost myself in there a few times.”

“Your command over me is what you want, right? And you have that! I am under your spell all the time, can’t you see? I follow you blindly far and wide,” I stop and wipe the tears from my face. “Only, when I need a fuck I become this, what you don’t like or want. A brute; defiant, mad, resentful, defensive deity… all for a fuck. Don’t hold it against me. It’s you who made me! I wasn’t like this before.”

“Amelia, we can’t…” he says, saddened. Noticing the car slowing down to a halt, he looks through the window and so do I.

“My house?” A dagger through my heart would have been less painful.

I search for his eyes but he looks away, hiding his face.

“I am let off… for wanting to fuck you?” I ask quietly, in disbelief, with tears surging again, overflowing my eyes. He is quiet, not a word coming from him and, wiping my tears, I open the door, dejected, leaving him inside.

Lucky Ones – Lana del Ray
Alexandra says this song goes with the following part of the book:

I grab my bag and walk through the empty room, glancing at his office. The door is closed, the blind down. No one’s there. I take the stairs to the parking lot, heading straight for my Cloud Nine. Something doesn’t make sense to me. I have a strange twinge in my heart that I don’t understand. I feel….argh, the sooner I’m out of here the better for me and my sanity.

I put the key in the ignition and the radio comes on with the “Lucky Ones” by Lana Del Ray blaring through the speakers.

I got so scared I felt no one could save me

You came along, scooped me up like a baby,

No…get out of my mind! An unexpected wave of emotions crashes on top of me and my lips begin to tremble. I shake my head. “It’s stupid to cry!” My voice quivers as I say it and a lump forms in my throat. My eyes blur from the engorged tears, overflowing and warm, running down my face. Still, with my lips pressed tight, I keep wiping them with the back of my hand, but they don’t stop, they just flow. I drive away, changing gears, and the moment the chorus comes on, out of nowhere, I’m tipped over the edge. The song is fitting, the sound resonating in the car and my voice is gone, I’m whimpering and soon I give in. Sobbing quietly at first and then louder and louder, I’m letting it all out.

“..Every now and then the stars align,
boy and girl meet by the great design,
Could it be that you and me are the lucky ones…”

If I don’t believe in love at first sight then why am I crying like a little girl? Why the fuck? My eyes are stinging red and I don’t care, I need to get it out of my system. That’s my penance.

“…Sometimes you have to decide if you want to step forward into growth or step back into safety, dear.”

The Boot Knockers Ranch, Book 2

If there’s one thing that Damian Vince can do well, it’s read women. With his trademark wink and sexy drawl, he’s the most wanted cowboy on the Boot Knockers Ranch, a spa where sexually challenged women come to get charmed out of their uptight panties.

He’s also the ranch’s bad boy—he hates to admit he’s had his mug-shot taken more than once. But now he’s on the right path, ranching and fulfilling women’s desires.

Prim grade-school teacher Ruthie Johansson prays Damian will be able to fix her strict upbringing that’s left her leery of men and intercourse, though her body aches for both. Once she sets eyes on the muscular, auburn-haired Damian, she throbs only for him.

As they get skin to skin, her instinct touches something Damian’s been struggling to hide from his fellow Boot Knockers. EXCERPT

Ruthie clasped her hands and fought to keep from wringing them. The backstage area was alive with chatter. Excited giggles echoed around her as she waited for the cowboys.

She looked at the other women. They were as diverse as the cowboys on the brochure. Women with every shade of hair and body type huddled together, some talking quietly about what to expect.

With a knot of nausea in her throat, Ruthie didn’t feel like speaking. Besides, when she stepped onto the stage, she would be alone. No one could save her from what she’d chosen to do.

Isabel, the stage manager, buzzed between girls, dashing notes on her clipboard. “You’re up third, Ruthie.”

Nodding, she battled the urge to bolt for the door. Boarding the jet to Texas had given her the illusion she was going on a nice vacation. But once she’d arrived at the ranch and been taken into a private screening room to choose from a selection of cowboys, her real purpose hit hard.

She’d come to find the most sexual pleasure she’d ever known, which would be easy considering she hadn’t found it with her former lovers.

Images of the five cowboys she’d selected revolved through her mind. They were in the audience right now. In a few minutes she’d step onto the stage and they’d fight over who would win her.

She dragged in a wavering gasp just as Isabel announced the first contestant was to take the stage.

Holding her breath with the rest of the women, Ruthie watched from the sidelines as a tall girl with a pretty face and dishwater-blonde hair stood before the cowboys.

Ruthie’s mind clouded, and she stared at her simple, flat leather sandals. How had she gotten here? From the third-grade classroom to a sex club. Her face burned.

By the time she lifted her gaze again, the first woman was coming offstage.

With a cowboy.

Ruthie felt her jaw drop as she came face-to-face with the dashing, muscled man in worn denim, boots and hat. His shirt was blue plaid, sleeves rolled to his elbows, displaying a tattoo of a rodeo belt buckle on his forearm.

“Take good care of her, Elliot,” Isabel said with a grin.

He tipped his hat at Isabel and hooked the woman’s arm more securely over his. He led her through the throng of women and out the side door.

Oh my God. Oh my God.

Ruthie gasped for breath when contestant number two took the stage. She wore ill-fitting clothes that disguised her body. When she took her place in the spotlight, she smiled, and her whole appearance transformed.

“I wish we could hear what they’re saying,” someone beside Ruthie whispered.

Me too. What should she expect? More Q&A? How would she ever keep her knees from knocking when faced with all that testosterone?

“Get ready, Ruthie. It’s almost your turn.”

The knot in her belly pulled tight, and she was pretty sure she knew what expression she wore. In the classroom, it was one she’d come to recognize early—right before the cleanup.

Contestant number two came off stage, grinning like Miss America and guided by a tanned hunk with his hand on the small of her back.

Ruthie shivered, more aware of herself than ever before. Within minutes she’d be that girl, and she’d have some cowboy’s hand on her.

All OVER me with any luck.

“Ruthie, you’re on!”

Sucking in a deep breath, she stepped onto the stage. Her sandals were almost noiseless on the polished floor. As soon as she stepped into the spotlight, she broke out in a sweat. Her watermelon-colored cotton sundress clung to her damp skin, and she squeezed her fingers together until her knuckles popped.

Her heart throbbed heavily in her ears. Through the glare of lights, she could just make out the line of cowboys. They sat in plush leather chairs with red buttons before them.

Oh my God, I’ve landed on a game show. And I’m the prize.

About the author

MCVEgan-authorphoto

M.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Vergara Egan. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, the sixth of eight children, in a traditional Catholic family.

From a very young age, she became obsessed with the story of her maternal grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo–mostly the story of how he died.

She spent her childhood in Mexico. When her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C. in the early 1970s, she moved with her entire family to the United States. Catalina was already fluent in English, as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award, despite being the only one who had English as a second language in her class.

In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland in 1977. She attended Montgomery Community College, where she changed majors every semester. She also studied in Lyons, France, at the Catholic University for two years. In 1981, due to an impulsive young marriage to a Viking (the Swedish kind, not the football player kind), Catalina moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She then returned to the USA, where she has lived ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish.

Maria Catalina Vergara Egan is married and has one son who, together with their five-pound Chihuahua, makes her feel like a full-time mother. Although she would not call herself an astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in the subject.
The celebrated her 52nd birthday on July 2nd, 2011, and gave herself self-publishing The Bridge of Deaths as a gift.
