The Opposite of Hew
A BWWM Novella by Lisa W. Tetting

Kay McQueen is different from the women in her family. She lives her life for her, not for a man. Though she enjoys an occasional romp with a sexy man, she is not looking for Mr. Right. Her goals in life are to build her home health care business, and to travel the world. Well, at least she has her business life together. The travel thing, not so much. That is until her favorite aunt passes away, leaving a journal with her final wishes.

As far as Kay knows, Aunt Gigi is the ultimate single girl, the life of the party, even pushing eighty years old. What she finds in Gigi’s journal causes her to rethink her position on love and marriage. She embarks on a dual purpose journey; to scatter Gigi’s ashes and to discover love. Along the way, she encounters a man named Heath who is tall, sexy, and has magical hands. His kisses set her body on fire, but when she finds out his true identity, she wants to set him on fire, literally.

Find out how Kay handles the situation and see exactly who Heath is and what it means to Kay’s family. When these two worlds collide, the outcome is explosive. Heath’s lies and deception finally catch up with him, as Kay finds that what she was looking for, she already had. Discover why Happily Ever After isn’t always what it seems.

Read an excerpt here:

I allowed my alarm to blare into the room for three minutes before I begrudgingly unearthed myself from the mountain of covers on my California King. My bed is super comfy, but that’s not the reason I didn’t want to leave it. This was the most dreaded day of the year! This was the day when ALL of my family members got together, for the sole purpose of finding me a man. The McQueen family reunion!

You may think I was overreacting, but I swear, ever since I turned forty they have been coming out of the woodwork. Aunties, uncles, cousins, play cousins, brothers that I don’t have and sisters that I wish I didn’t all congregated under the guise of family, just to torture me. If I had to hear ‘Kay, when are you gonna find you a man and have some babies?’ one more time, I think I might join a convent. That would shut them up. On second thought, the nuns would probably be giving me the side eye too.
I finally made it onto my feet in a standing position and stumbled into the bathroom to take care of my business. Before the water could even heat in the shower my big sister, Tessa, was blowing up my phone. Mind you, I had a gas water heater, so the water was always hot. I should let her old melon head go to voicemail, but she will keep calling until I answer.

“Good morning Tess. What’s good?”

“What’s good? What young boy did you learn that from? You sound like your nephew when he’s talking to his friends.”

“Did you call to give me lessons on millennial phrases and culture, or was there a purpose to this call?”

I rolled my eyes and removed my toothbrush from its holder, spreading toothpaste on the bristles. I may as well brush while she ranted. There would be no way for me to get a word in edgewise. Putting the call on speaker, I placed my phone on the counter so I could groom properly without being rude.

“Eww, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Anywho, I just wanted to make sure you were up. You can’t be late for the festivities this year. Auntie Gigi has been asking for you since everyone arrived last night. You should have seen that woman trying to twerk. I swear, Kay, if you don’t get your act together, you will turn out just like her. Old, sad and alone, trying to shake your behind with the young folk.”

Tessa never did get along with Auntie Gigi, but she was my favorite aunt. Somehow, Tessa thought comparing me to her would be an insult, but I would love to live the kind of life Gigi had. Pushing eighty years old and could twerk? Are you kidding me? #lifegoals

My older sister made a habit of asking me when I was going to settle down and get married. That was her way of showing me that she cared, but her inquiries annoyed me. As a forty something strong African American woman I did not need a man to validate my life! Though, if I was being honest, I definitely want one sometimes.

Review time!

I preordered the book, so it dropped onto my kindle at midnight. And like the fanatical book reader I am, I was up at midnight reading it. This book made me laugh, made me cry and made me clap for the heroine. I believe the heroine, Kay, and I would’ve been besties… if she was real. (In my head she’s real and we hang out on the weekends with her aunt Gi-Gi.)

Speaking of aunt Gi-Gi… she was hilarious. I loved her so much. Every girl needs an aunt Gi-Gi in her life. It was delightful to learn more about Gi-Gi as the story unfolded. What I loved most is that Kay is independent and comfortable with who she is. She doesn’t let the world tell her how she should be or what she should be doing.

In this book there is a bit of romance, some deceit and some backstabbing. There are some tear jerker moments also. I eagerly turned the pages to see what would happen next and I was not disappointed. You won’t be either. So, be sure to check out The Opposite of Hew! It’s available now on Amazon!

What I’m Reading: Studdin Axxel by author Donna R. Mercer.

Hi guys. As you all know, when I’m not busy writing, I have my nose in a book. Today, I just finished ‘Studdin Axxel: Inappropriate Dating Agency’ by Donna R. Mercer. I absolutely loved this book. Before I get to my review, let me tell you a little bit about the book.

51+LzewYI+L

***The Inappropriate Date Agency does not assume liability for any panties that end up soaking wet from an encounter with our contractors. Nor do we assume liability for any freaked out parents, embarrassed siblings or food fight that may or may not have started on account of their contractors.***

Winifred Hamilton was taking her life back.

For twenty-six years her mother has guilt tripped her into playing it safe. Now she and her friends wanted Wendy to live the same throwback 1960 lives that they did. No way, no how was Wendy going to succumb to the pressure.

Little did she know that reading an innocent looking ad in the back of a magazine would change her life forever.

Axxel Rhodes, put the BA into Bad Boy. He excelled at being an A-hole and now he was bringing that skill to Wendy. He was hired to convince Wendy’s mother that she was more than capable of deciding her own future including her husband.

Go big or go home was the motto he lived his life by and he was big all over. More importantly he was willing to show Wendy how big he could get in and out of bed, against the wall, on the living room floor….

I love everything about this story. I love the plot and the way the author let it unfold. The idea of an inappropriate dating agency is awesome and I love the main characters.

Axxel is a sexy bad boy with a good heart. (The kind we all love.) Wendy is an obedient daughter who is tired of her controlling mother. I loved getting to know Wendy’s inner rebel.

The moment Axxel hears Wendy’s voice, he’s intrigued. The chemistry between the two of them are HOT. This story is hot and hilarious. This book is a must read!

#BeautifulVillains presents: Anna Black from the Chloe Daniel’s Mysteries series by Deidra D.S. Green.

beautifulvillains

October belongs to the villains. All October, I’ve been sharing books that feature amazing villains. You know who I’m talking about – the bad guys/girls/creatures of the night who we love to hate. Or hate to love. Maybe both.

The next villain I’m showing love to is Anna Black from the Chloe Daniel’s Mysteries by author Deidra D.S. Green. First of all, let me say that I absolutely love this series and I LOVE Anna Black.

In my opinion, she’s one of those misunderstood villains. Like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad or Regina as the evil queen from Once Upon A Time. You have to read the series to form your own opinion. Everyone say hello to Ms. Anna Black!

sick new2 (1).jpg num

Hush little baby, don’t say a word…

For years, Anna Black was the only child and the apple of her parents’ eyes. When baby sister, Angel, comes along, Anna’s life is quickly turned upside down. Anna will stop at nothing to win back her parents’ affection. When her tactics lose their efficacy, Anna’s desperate cries for help morph into something more sinister. Can anyone stop this angel of mercy? Find out in Sick, Sicker, Sickest… A Chloe Daniels Mystery

meetthevillain

Anna Black is an exceptional villain because she’s complex and simple all at the same time. Anna desperately wants the attention of her parents, simple, right? But the way she goes about trying to gain their attention is what complicates matters.

Anna is brilliant, I mean she is incredibly intelligent; however, people assume because of what she does that she isn’t all that bright. Anna proves over and over again that it takes a great deal of smarts to be an effective serial killer; although Anna regards herself as an Angel of Mercy.

excerpt

Baby Jane reminded Anna Black of Angel, her little sister.  Baby Jane didn’t stand a real chance at having a decent life, Anna thought to herself as she filled the syringe without measuring.  The teen mom, young, dumb, and immature, didn’t even realize she was pregnant (or that’s what she tried to tell anyone who would listen) until it was too late.

Anna didn’t see the mother beforehand, but the buzz around the nurses’ station was that the girl didn’t gain a lot of weight with the pregnancy.  Her parents must have been stupid, too, Anna thought to herself as she found just the right spot behind the baby’s ear for the deadly injection. Who doesn’t know they’re pregnant, no matter how young they are?

The girl is said to have had the baby at home sitting on the toilet.  She supposedly panicked and didn’t grab the little girl out of the shitty, bloody toilet water until it was almost too late.  The new grandmother heard commotion coming from the bathroom and fished the baby out of the toilet.  By the time they got the baby and the mom to the hospital, the baby had suffered brain damage.

They weren’t sure if she would ever be right again. I’m doing her a favor, Anna mused as she pushed the piercing needle deep into the baby’s pink flesh.  The baby didn’t even cry, completely unaware of the assault of insulin about to take over her little body. First to die off completely would be her brain, then her main organs would start to shut down—her liver, lungs and finally her heart would fail to beat ever again.

It was late at night in the nursery and Anna was one of only three nurses on rotation in the infant ward.  After recapping and placing the poison-filled needle back in the pocket of her nursing smock, Anna rubbed the baby’s back lovingly and began to hum and then sing her favorite lullaby.

Hush little baby, don’t say a word… Anna continued to hum as she went along.
The life supporting machines blared over Anna’s broken melody, alerting to the crisis the baby was beginning to experience.  Anna, being the savior that she was, ran to the alert button and slammed against it, signifying there was a problem in her unit.  Making her way to the entrance of her unit which spilled out into the main corridor of the infant ward, Anna went into full blown rescue mode.

“Help! Help! She’s Coding!”  Anna yelled into the hall for anyone in ear shot.  Doctors and medical personnel responded immediately, pouring into the unit and moving as quickly as possible to the aid of Baby Jane.  Anna stood back and let the madness unfold in front of her.  She hoped she had given Baby Jane enough to take her out of her misery.

If not, the baby would be worse off than when Anna started.  Besides, she was fucked up anyway.  Either way, Anna would be seen as the hero.  She was the one who found the baby in a compromised position.  She was the one who alerted staff to the medical crisis.  No matter what others did to try and save the baby’s life, Anna would be the one the parents would remember as the first to respond.

Anna moved closer to the action.  She had to.  She was a nurse and charged with the responsibility of aiding the sick.  Anna had taken the Hippocratic Oath just like the rest of the team working diligently to save little Baby Jane’s mediocre life.  Hands were moving swiftly—orders were being given from the lead doctor.

They were almost frantic as the machines continued to blare the disaster that was happening right in front of their eyes. They had no idea that this disaster was man-made.  Anna had to hold back a smile as she saw just how much energy she created in such a short period of time. After a few moments of non-stop medical mayhem, the machines that indicated how well or how poorly the patient was doing started to utter sounds closer to normal.

The height of the crisis was over, but Baby Jane was not out of the woods yet.  She would have to be moved to the neonatal intensive care unit where they would try and see if they could undo the things that had been done to her—the things they didn’t know had been done to her.

Baby Jane had a chance at survival if they found out about the oversaturation of insulin that had been so violently injected into her poor defenseless body.  If they got to her in time she would live, and her life would continue to be a waste. If they didn’t, Baby Jane would go to be with the angels.

The next step in the process was really what Anna lived for.  She lived for the thank you’s she got from her fellow medical practitioners for getting to the baby just in the nick of time.  Anna lived for the moment when the parents would be told what happened and who helped save their baby.

Even if Baby Jane didn’t make it, for her parents, Anna would live in infamy as their hero—the one who got their first. Anna didn’t go with Baby Jane to intensive care.  That was not her job. She had done what she intended to do.  The rest of what happened would be left to others. Besides, there were more precious little babies for her to give her special kind of attention to.

201012-tale-of-two-cities-excerpt-300x205

Skulking over the ledger’s musty-scented pages, Dr. Livingston dipped the oversized quill into the emerald-green inkwell before penning the latest entry:

11 November 1877
Bethlem Royal Hospital Bedlam
London, England

Subject 41 expired at approximately 10:22 p.m., possibly due to cardiac arrest once again. I wait for my assistant Hensley to deliver and release the corpse to the hospital morgue. My only concern is that there may perhaps be further inquiry into the claw-like contusions upon the deceased’s forearms and along his facial cheeks. I still cannot fathom how the subject, who was restrained, managed to damage himself in such a way. Both Hensley and I agree that the peculiar wounds appeared to spontaneously appear across the patient’s flesh of their own accord.

Having witnessed this entire incident, I must admit that further precautions are still a necessity as I continue to push on toward a resolution to this condition. The screams of the patient still reverberate within my ears at those haunting terrors, which only existed in his tormented mind. My first assertion is that the patient’s experience became so vivid, he was somehow able to enact the subjective manifestations of his consciousness into literal lacerations upon his extremities. Perhaps Hensley and I are the first to witness the true potential of the human mind to inflict its falsely perceived stimuli upon the body during a controlled experiment. Mind over the material world indeed! This may warrant further exploration in the future after I have completed my current work toward a cure for dementia praecox.

When Hensley returns, he will prepare Subject 42 for her time in the chair. I will administer the new cocktail of ingredients according to the schedule after readjusting the chloroform and nitrous oxide levels for proper sedation during the procedure. Even though she’s much smaller than Subject 41, we still need to gauge the appropriate levels of anesthesia so Subject 42 will remain conscious yet controllable and programmable during the procedure.

As I understand it, Subject 42 has a peculiarly heightened state of hysteria, so perhaps this will allow us to mark any substantial improvements in her mental realignment using the electric resonating device with profound measure. It was difficult to identify the response from Subject 41 due to his condition’s tepid state and mannerisms.

Regardless of tonight’s setbacks, I have the utmost certainty that I can mitigate the issues Subject 41 experienced tonight. It is too soon for me to surrender now and too dangerous for me to stop. Questions are being asked already and if I do not have an answer to Annabelle’s condition soon, I may not be able to cure her ailment before they forcibly return me to New York if they discover what I have been doing. Certainly, they would shower me with accolades upon my substantial progress, but the board will need to see results and I need to save Annabelle if I am to marry her. She would definitively accept my proposal of marriage with a clear mind, for who else could liberate her from Dr. Kraepelin’s diagnosis other than the youngest fellow to be accepted by Bethlem Royal Hospital? At the age of thirty-seven, I will become renowned for such an achievement and therefore, Annabelle would accept me unconditionally.

E. L., PhD

Edgar rested his quill in the inkwell and remained still as he pondered what outcomes awaited him in the final experiment of the evening. A rapping at the heavy oak study door rescued him from his reverie.

“Yes, what is it?” he asked.

“Dr. Livingston, Subject 42 is now prepped for the resonance procedure,” Hensley responded. “Should I start charging the apparatus?”

“Indeed, Hensley. I shall be there momentarily.”

synopsis

In 1887, Dr. Edgar Livingston worked relentlessly to find a cure for his beloved’s condition which caused her mind to unravel from the tormenting hallucinations. Through trial and error experimentation on dozens of mentally ill patients at Bethlem Royal Hospital, he pushed against the moral threshold of ethical practices attempting to unlock the secrets of the human mind by realigning their resonance with reality. What Doctor Livingston did not realize were the otherworldly dimensions that took notice of his impetuous work.

“Dementia Praecox” is the second story in the “A Short Journey Into Darkness” horror series by author W.O. Cassity. The short story series offers originally unique fiction written in vivid detail to immerse readers into the fringes of terror.

My Review:

I give Dementia Praecox four stars!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author describes each scene in such detail that I felt like I was watching a horror film. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say that I understood what motivated Dr. Edgar to perform his experiments. However, after so much carnage, you’d think he’d give up. No, he perseveres. And that leads him to an outcome he never thought possible. If you love horror, I highly recommend this novella.

synopsis

Power…it’s a heady drug.

Vanessa Warren is America’s favorite rebel. Daughter and granddaughter of US Presidents and sister to a future one, her family connections and notoriety are seen as leverage for manipulating the White House—if she’s captured.

One little lie leads to a whole lot of trouble.

Reclusive international resort developer, Dominic Varga, needs a date to ward off his matchmaking parents. When he persuades the notorious Vanessa Warren to play his girlfriend for the night, he has no idea he’s stepped into the crosshairs of kidnappers who will do anything—destroy everything—to get to her.

One true thing…

Trapped in a rapidly escalating international terror plot, Dominic and Vanessa’s lie becomes the only real thing in the midst of betrayals, conspiracies, and murder. As their world falls apart, they suddenly only have each other to rely on against ruthless people who will stop at nothing to achieve their goal. Who can they trust? Who is behind the plot—her own family, a political rival of her family’s, or a terrorist organization? How far will the kidnappers go—what will they be willing to sacrifice—to control the power of the White House? Is there anywhere in the world where they can find safety?

Excerpt-

Chin resting on folded arms against the balcony’s railing, she stared down at the streets below, erratic energy zapping from her bent body encased in violet while the breeze tossed her long tresses against bare shoulders.
She was too beautiful, too known, too wild, too…much. He knew that she was the kind of woman who could devour him, who would know his soul, who would wield her power over him with advanced skill. Yet he couldn’t leave. Maybe that’s why he had come, armed with chili-cheese fries, to dare destiny.
“My great-grandmother was a painter,” she said after he’d joined her. “Being an artist is all I’ve ever wanted to do.”
“And you did it. You had a successful showing and—”
“Someone destroyed them all.”
“Yes, they did.” He couldn’t imagine having one of his resorts go up in flames. Maybe it wasn’t the same exactly, but he poured so much of himself into each design, into every part of the decision making process, that it would feel like…a death. He didn’t know what to do or what to say to ease her pain.
She blew out a long breath before standing straight and looking at him through the shadows. “It’s at least one in the morning by now. Time for bed. Are you joining me?”
He inhaled sharply at the idea of resuming where they’d left off.
“Don’t you want to…talk or something?” he asked.
“About my feelings?” Her lips twisted. “It sucks. It hurts like hell. It pisses me off. There. I talked about my feelings. We good now?”
He’d never met anyone like her. Vanessa Warren was definitely one-of-a kind. She sauntered to him, almost like a predator about to go in for the kill, stood on her tiptoes until her breath caressed his chin, and whispered, “Make me believe in something good, something better than a lie.”
He grabbed her ass and lifted her up until they were eye-to-eye. Hair licked with fire slipped across his face when she leaned over him, all color and warmth. He wanted this, wanted her. This is why he had come, to feel this again, this agony of desire that he had suppressed for years.
Fingers twisted in the strands of hair that slipped against his face. He crushed her to him, ravaging her mouth like a dying man grasping at life. Tongues teased. Teeth nipped. And he fell past a point he had never thought to cross, not that he cared, not that it mattered. In his mind, he could see the lights of the city, blurring with speed and spinning beneath them.
God, she felt good. Intoxicating. Her lips nibbled across his neck.
“I shouldn’t want you so much, but I do. I can’t stop myself,” she whispered.
“Why do you want me?” He held her firm with his fists wrapped in her hair. “Tell me.”
“You wanted me when you didn’t know who I was. We were just two people, strangers, without a past or a future. I knew you wanted to fuck me against that mural, beneath that tarp, I saw it in your eyes, thought about it all damn day. Then tonight there you were. You walked up those stairs like a predator, seeking me out, sweeping me away.”
“You want to be swept away?”
“Desperately.”
“I’ll do my best.” He scooped her off her feet and carried her from the balcony to the bedroom. He fell onto his back against the mattress with her silk-encased body draped across him.
“Damn dress.” She propped herself above him and grimaced. “Help me out of it?”
“With pleasure,” he whispered against her neck.
His fingers moved to the discreet zipper at her side and — with his gaze never leaving hers — he slid it down. She shrugged it off her left shoulder. As if unwrapping a Christmas gift, he wasted no time in sliding the rest from her lean, toned body. Velvet hissed down her torso and slipped from her legs. Clad only in strapless bra and panties with her hair falling in wild layers past her shoulders, she kicked the tangled material off her feet and flashed him a devilish smile.
“You’re deadly.” But what a way to die.
Off came the bra. She grinned like the seductress she was and tossed it aside. “I’ll be gentle.”
“Don’t lie to me anymore.” His hands covered her breasts, claiming them. “Game’s over.”
“Wrong, Nic. It’s just getting started.” She pushed his shirt from his shoulders and kissed his neck.

Interview-sign-1024x731

Q: What motivated this suspense plot about the pursuit of power?

A: I have a love/hate relationship with politics. Not only am I an activist on the local level, but I find the political spectacle fascinating. How low will someone go to win office? What will it take for someone to betray a confidante? Is the ideal of the ‘greater good’ still relevant in today’s cynical world and, if so, what exactly does that mean? Are there still genuine good guys in office—I believe there are—and what is their struggle to remain that way?

Q: That’s a lot of questions. Do you deal with them all in One True Thing?

A. In a subtle way, yes. One True Thing is essentially about Vanessa Warren’s struggle to have her own identity despite a very public upbringing and a larger than life lineage. When she is suddenly thrust into the role of a pawn to be used to manipulate her famous family, she is forced to embrace the power that comes with her last name whether she wants to or not. As the story develops, the concept of the greater good comes into play—and it’s one she openly mocks in the beginning of the book—and she eventually realizes exactly what that means. That’s all I can say without giving spoilers.

Q: But this is a love story?

A: Yes, it is definitely a love story about a man who had closed himself off to feeling much of anything about anyone. He’s devoted himself to building an empire. Tragedy made him skittish about opening his heart, which is how he winds up with the most notorious woman in the world as a date to a party to deter his matchmaking parents. Their little lie has more truth to it than they initially believe and, as the story unfolds, becomes the only true thing they can trust. He sees Vanessa as a woman without an intimidating lineage and she sees him for the kind person he once was before tragedy made him a cynic.

Q: You’re known for creating a vibrant cast of characters in all of your stories, but in this one—although there are obviously secondary players—the focus is keenly on the main characters, why did you construct it a bit differently?

A: In this story, Vanessa’s world is shrinking as she’s being hunted. Everything she has taken for granted—even friendships—is being stripped away. Layer by layer, she starts doubting the people around her, begins questioning the world she’s lived in her whole life, and realizes how isolated she has become. The only person she can trust is a stranger she met named Dominic because he has no history with her, no motivation to sell her out. Hence the architecture of this book starts out broad and works into a sharp peak with Vanessa and Dominic at its center.

Q: What is the one true thing?

A: Family. Love. Strip away the power, the money, the fame, the illusion, and there is only one true thing that matters—love.

What a great read! Vanessa is definitely a feisty female. Yet, underneath her tough exterior lives a woman who just wants to be left alone. Like all of us, she has dreams and goals. But, unlike most of us, she’s not free to pursue those dreams. Why? Because her family is involved in politics. And though she wants nothing to do with that life, she keeps being dragged back into the thick of things. And then she meets Dominic, the very sexy Dominic. These two are made for each other. He has secrets he’s trying to outrun and she has a killer she’s trying to stay two steps ahead of. If you enjoy a novel that is full of suspense with twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat, then this novel is for you. Throw in steamy sex scenes and you have a five star read. This book has definitely made me a fan of this author.

Girl Talk Saturday, Guest Posts, Spotlights, What I'm Reading!

Feisty Females Part 1: Yoko from ‘The Plot’ by Melinda De Ross #Review

FeistyFemalesbanner

Happy Sexy Saturday!

June is here and all month long I’ll be shining the spotlight on feisty heroines in romance. Today’s Feisty Female is Yoko Hirano from THE PLOT by Melinda De Ross. Melinda is going to share with us what traits make her character part of the Feisty Female Club.
**My review of the book is at the bottom of the post. 🙂 **

The Plot
~Feisty Heroines: Yoko Hirano~

When I was invited to talk about my most impressive book heroine, I immediately chose to talk about Yoko Hirano, the twenty-two-year-old female lead from my Suspense Romance, THE PLOT. Yoko is one of the strongest characters I have ever created, and I admit her story wasn’t easy to write. A strong woman by nature, she was forced to become even stronger when she was pushed into prostitution at age eighteen. Unfortunately, this horrifying experience with which many women are confronted in real life every day has made her hard, almost unfeeling.

Her only goal becomes to get revenge on the Chinese triad that has stolen her innocence and destroyed her life. And to achieve that, she is willing to go on selling her body even when she escapes the tentacles of the organization. She tries to freeze her mind and heart, and performs sexual acts with strangers like a robot. That is, until she meets Mark Chandler.

Since she was a virgin when she was forced to become a prostitute, Yoko’s opinions about men and sex are very unflattering. But she senses there is a strange chemistry between her and Mark, which she can’t explain. As a prostitute, she’d never allowed any man to kiss her on the mouth, so when Mark kisses her for the first time, she is torn between shame and love.

Feeling soiled and dirty because of her past, and afraid Mark would find out about it, she refuses to do anything about the attraction between them. But Mark is persistent, and even though Yoko’s all-consuming ambition drives her to one purpose, she finds herself dazzled by the charming antique dealer. It remains to be seen if he’ll manage to overcome all of her fears and accept love completely…

“Best work ever, Melinda.”

FiveStars

~My Review~

I give THE PLOT five stars. I absolutely loved it. I don’t even know where to begin. I guess I’ll start with the feisty female. From the very beginning we see that Yoko is smart and ambitious. She only wants to better her life, not only for herself, but for her family.

Then the unthinkable happens and those dreams are stolen from her. I admire her courage and her ability to stay strong during those dark years. When she breaks free from those chains she’s determined to make those who hurt her pay.

Then she meets Mark and she has to make a decision: give up her plan for revenge and turn to love instead or turn her back on love and seek the vengeance she’s dreamed about for years. You have to read the book to find out what happens.

But I will tell you this, Mark is the perfect man for her. He’s kind, caring, sexy and he has a few secrets of his own. Purchase your copy of THE PLOT to find out if Yoko chooses to follow her heart or if she allows her need for revenge to lead her away from love. Trust me, you won’t be sorry and you’ll be surprised by the twists and turns the author takes you on. I highly recommend The Plot by Melinda De Ross.

Book Blurb

Life isn’t always fair, and that’s something that Llewellyn Gardner knows about first hand. His life was on the fast track until one night of extreme passion changed everything. Now eight years later, he’s still living with the aftershocks of that night. Everywhere he turns or runs, there’s another reminder. What the hell do you do when you try to drown your demons only to find out they can swim?

Shane Smith, Jr. owner of Smith Construction, could see the emotional turmoil within his new employee — it’s why he hired him. There was something about the gorgeous, misunderstood man with the overly expressive eyes that came to their small town with a past no one was willing to overlook. Shane could see the good in Llewellyn, and those eyes of his were a clear window to his soul. Shane wasn’t going to let the man live a future of solitude because his past had been plagued with deceit.

Llewellyn wasn’t sure what to think about Shane. After years of protecting himself from being tricked twice, he was now faced with worry again. What would happen to him if Shane didn’t believe his truth, and walked away? Llewellyn wasn’t sure he’d be able to survive being left alone. Again.

MY REVIEW

FiveStars

First of all, let me start off by saying, “I will not tell you what happened in this book.”

I’m sorry, I just can’t. You have to read it for yourself and trust me… YOU WILL LOVE IT.

It’s an amazing story of love, loss and lies. There are some characters you will fall in love with instantly. There are others that will make you wish they were never born. (I know that seems a bit harsh, but once you read this book you will understand where I’m coming from.)

Not only was this book amazing, it was also real. It wasn’t a fairy tale. The main character didn’t have an easy life. But he stayed strong, thanks to the help of some amazing secondary characters.

The happily ever after at the end of this book was well deserved. You must read it to see Llew’s journey. It’s heartbreaking but uplifting in a sense.

I’m a big fan of A.E VIA and I can’t wait for her next book to come out! This one is definitely a FIVE STAR book!

Blood and Gold (Wictred Book 2) by Anais Morgan #Dark and #Delicious

4fc2ddea35fab67b4cf1f0d80b08be9a6f91e6ea

She will feed them or die. Or both.

Just when eighteen-year-old Mary Scott is ready to go to culinary school, she’s captured and held prisoner by The Order-a religious group that sells humans to vampires. Mary is sent to become the blood slave to the Wictreds, a family of three vampires. There’s Deacon, the gentleman with a short temper, Solomon, sarcastic one with some serious mood swings, and Cain, the child-like one that has a problem with self control. Her only hope is to escape, but she has a single chance. If she’s caught she’ll be killed to keep her silent.

As time passes, Mary’s days become numbered. After all, she has only so much blood. The longer she’s in the house, the more time she spends with Solomon. When he’s not toying with her, he’s actually a nice guy and protects her from his brothers. Mary loves his company and soon his presence makes her heart flutter. But humans and vampires must be separate, and Deacon will do anything to keep the family honor intact.

Excerpt
Deacon liked them small and frail. He reveled in the idea of being so much stronger than his meal. Solomon had wanted a beautiful girl for so long. The last few slaves had been as ugly as a fucking dog.
It was going to be nice to have a pretty little thing in the house.
When he licked her hand, he tasted it. She was different. Pure. No medicine in her blood, no illnesses that would taint her. A virgin.
Solomon smiled as he thought of his Virgin Mary. Such a cute name for a cute woman. She was young, at least eighteen, but not much older. How crazy was it going to be that he’d have someone other than his twin in the house?
And one like her. That pink hair. Those carved cheekbones. Those full lips. And oh, those chocolate eyes. Virgin Mary promised to be fun.
And Solomon couldn’t wait to toy with his new plaything.

WORD COUNT – 78,200
Release Date: February 07, 2014

Synopsis:
World renowned chef Prescott Vaughan was at the height of his career. Right before he’s to leave for Paris to work alongside his idol, a horrific car accident leaves him completely blind.
His female fiancé leaves him in a state of desperation and depression. He pines for love, companionship, and so happens to find it in the form of his very sexy neighbor. Sexy male neighbor, Dr. Rickson ‘Ric’ Edwards.
Prescott’s not gay – at least he never considered himself gay – until Ric saves him from a date, gone terribly wrong. The two neighbors hit it off quickly and waste no time exploring and learning each other. Things are great until Ric begins to have his doubts about meeting Prescott’s many wants.
When Ric insist he and Prescott take a breather, Pres finds himself lonely and lacking again. Enter, male escort and aspiring chef, Blair McKenzie to fill the void.
In the meantime, Ric works on his issues that prohibits him from displaying the love he knows he has for Prescott. When Ric is finally ready and returns to claim Prescott he’s not sure that Pres can let go of the sexy, southern, hotness that is Blair McKenzie. After Ric has his own personal encounter with the sinfully sexy man, he can’t help but become entranced and crave more as well.
Pres soon realizes that there’s no need to choose between his two men, because when all three of them finally come together – grab a cold drink – the heat is going to go all the way up!
This is not your typical gay ménage romance. Everyone is not happy, skipping along, and loving life. These men are at each other’s throats. They live completely separate lives; fuss, cuss, and fight until they all realize exactly what the problem is…too damn much sexual tension.

Excerpt:
Ric leaned his head back against the elevator paneling and watched the numbers light up all the way to floor ten before his eyes drifted shut for the rest of the way. When the doors opened, he came face-to-face with Prescott’s Texan.
Fuck me.
Instead of the gorgeous prick getting on the elevator and leaving, the cocky bastard took a couple steps back and leaned against the wall on the opposite side of the hallway and stared openly at him as if he hadn’t a care in the world. His hazel eyes scanned Ric up and down, taking in his disheveled, stressed-out appearance.
“Do you have a fucking problem?” Ric growled, refusing to pretend to be cordial to the man even though he was a complete stranger and had done absolutely nothing to him.
The man had the nerve to smirk at him and shake his head as if pitying Ric, or perhaps throwing it in Ric’s face that he’d definitely had a better night than he had. Ric did try to hide his anger at knowing the man had slept with his Pres. Why the hell else would he be leaving at five in the damn morning? Unless he delivered newspapers or milk, he had absolutely no reason to be on this floor this time of morning. Bastard.
“No, I don’t have a problem,” he drawled slowly, making sure to put extra enunciation on the “I” part of his sentence. “But, obviously, you do. Or else you wouldn’t be scowling at me for no reason.”
“Fuck you,” Ric snarled, stepping just a little closer. He wanted to tear the man’s lips off for talking with that accent. Then he wanted to rip his hands off for daring to touch his Prescott. The man’s probably a male gold digger.
“Did you enjoy taking advantage of Prescott? Did you get what you came for?” Ric growled like a rabid animal three inches away from the man’s face, but he’d be damned if the asshole didn’t even flinch at his showcase of fury. No reaction whatsoever.
The Texan had one hand casually tucked in his jeans pocket, kicking back one side of his stylish blazer, while he lazily rubbed his other hand over his taut chest and washboard abs that showed through the thin material of his untucked dress shirt. Ric hated to admit it, but the man looked well fucked, and he wore it well.
“How could you do that to someone like him?” Ric fumed, and it took everything in him to control his rage.
If I hit him, no one would know. There’s no one around, no witnesses. It’d be his word against mine.
“I knew I’d peg you in less than five minutes.” The man spoke with one dark brown eyebrow cocked up. He ran his fingers through his bed-tousled dark brown hair and let out an exasperated breath.
“Excuse me?” Ric blinked.
“Now I know why you were too stupid to hold on to Prescott Vaughan. You were too busy feeling sorry for him. Instead of you seeing a brilliant man, a world-renowned, accomplished chef who happens to be one of the most talented men to ever set foot in a kitchen, you see a needy, helpless man. Ahhh. Now it makes perfect sense.”
“Don’t try to act like you know me because you don’t,” Ric growled, still trying to be mindful they were in the hallway of the floor that he lived on.
The Texan pushed off the wall and closed the few inches between them. His six feet, two inches of height had him eye to eye with Ric, and the man showed no fear. His handsome face was now a mask of furious anger.
“I saw you treat him like shit on the bottom of your shoes last night. I watched him beg you for five fuckin’ minutes of your time, and you spat in his face. Now, you have the audacity to say I’m mistreating him? Fuck you,” he snarled right back at Ric.
Just as fast as the man’s anger came, it disappeared, and he composed himself to reveal that smirk that Ric selfishly rejoiced Pres couldn’t see, because it was sexy as fuck…and the man knew it.
Ric watched his competition push the elevator button as he rubbed his hand over his morning stubble before speaking again. “You know what they say, don’t you, Doc? One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and Prescott Vaughan is definitely a rare, precious treasure.”
The Texan inched in even closer, which surprised the hell out of Ric since they were practically nose to nose. Ric was smacked in the face with a faint soap-and-water fragrance that made his eyelids flutter and his own dick jerk to life. Ric’s half-lidded eyes were riveted to the Texan’s plush lips as he leaned in and whispered directly into Ric’s open mouth.
“If you don’t pull your head out of your ass and claim Prescott Vaughan like he wants, I won’t stop until I’ve fucked the sexy strawberry ten ways to Sunday and there’s not a single trace of your existence left in his mind, because with or without you, he needs love, and I was the one there last night to lick his sweet tears when you walked away.”
The elevator doors opened at his final words, and the smooth Texan took a few graceful steps backward into the elevator and gave Ric a sexy wink right before the doors closed.
Fucking asshole, Ric thought.

~Review Time~

Wow!!!! What more can I say…um, I loved it. I loved everything about it. From the author’s style of writing to the plot and let’s not forget those steamy love scenes. I think WOW pretty much sums it up. Each character in this story is going through their own issues. They’re facing every day problems that we face multiplied by ten. The opening scene in the book had me holding my breath. I wish life could’ve been a little easier on the main character, Prescott. I found myself wishing the author would just let him be, give him a happy ending and don’t let him suffer anymore. But that’s not life. Sometimes we go through hell before we finally find our happily ever after. I won’t give away any details but I will say that this isn’t your average MM romance. Yes there’s sex but this book isn’t all about sex. It’s about a journey to love and acceptance. I loved it and if you enjoy this genre of romance you will love it also. This story kept me captivated until the very end. Don’t you just love when that happens. I give, You Can See Me, FIVE stars. (I wish there was a part two.)

This book is available for purchase now through http://www.amirapress.com in any e-format (Kindle MOBI, PDF, EPUB, HTML, LIT)

What I'm Reading!

A hunger like no other – By Kresley Cole

a hunger

If you haven’t read this book you are missing out on a great read. The Hero is a wolf, the heroine is part vampire part valkyrie; what more could you ask for? There’s romance, fighting, blood drinking, and sex, steamy steamy sex.

I absolutely love the Hero, Lachlain. He’s been tortured by vampires for years and the only thing keeping him from going insane is the thought of his mate. Finally, one day he scents her, he knows that she is near. His desire for her makes him stronger, strong enough to escape the hell he’s been in. BUT when he finds her, he finds out that she is part vampire. Imagine his anger. But even the fact that she is a vampire cannot keep him from adoring the woman fate has gifted him with.

Loved it!
